I feel I may have started off on the wrong foot; a bit too stern and impersonal for my liking. Perhaps I just needed to get my message out, but, for the sake of our relationship, let me begin again by introducing myself. Prepare yourself for a long, boring "about me" post, filled with all the gory details of my mundane existence. Feel free to judge. I love haters. *wink*
I'm Carey; a 34 year old Gemini (in the most sincere form) from the east coast, having spent the entirety of my years between Virginia and Maryland; born in Virginia, dragged, literally kicking and screaming, to my parents' home state (It's a running joke that my folks are actually from California; Dad is from Compton, MD, Mom from Hollywood, MD,) As an adult, free to make terrible life choices...err, -create for myself some interesting learning experiences, I moved back to northern Virginia, briefly, then to a more urban area of Maryland, but I've now settled in this small town, close to my family (hopefully for good; I kind of like it here now, and I painfully missed my parents, my brother, and his family, and my local friends while I was away.)
I'm currently working as a culinary home delivery expert (aka. Pizza delivery driver. Don't judge; I needed a job in a hurry when I moved back to town.) and this week I interviewed at a local natural foods store, where I am terribly eager to work, provided I get the job (keep your fingers crossed!) I completed massage therapy schooling in December of 2013, and life got in my way, so I still have yet to get my license and begin my career, but we will get to that later.
I've just recently moved myself, my children (Okay, not birth children; two dogs, Gracie and Tater, who you'll meet later) and my entire houseful of belongings into the house where my boyfriend, we'll call him "The Dude," grew up and now lives to help keep an eye on his elderly mother. Oh, let's not forget about Goose, The Dude's sweet, old, Italian Greyhound! As I mentioned, I'll do a lengthy, photo-heavy, dog post later, so you can meet all the fur butts. That'll be fun! The living arrangements are, well, interesting, to say the least, as his older brother lives here also, but, thankfully, we don't see him too often (another post, another time...maybe.)
"The Dude" is Eric, my best friend, the love of my life, who is actually an old acquaintance I'd been crushing on since high school and originally met, in person, about fifteen years ago, thanks to some light stalking and a couple of mutual friends (Thanks, Bree!) I've always thought he was far too "cool" for me (low self esteem, much? But, yeah, turns out I'm cool too. Who knew?) Our previous attempts at hooking up have been wholly unsuccessful, but we're finally getting it right this time, having done a ton of growing up individually, and figuring out that we are, if such a thing exists, "soul mates." He is the most amazing man I've ever known, and has driven me to become a better human being, even with a mere seven months of steady dating under our belts, so we've only just begun. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us!
Now, down to the nitty gritty.
Things you're likely to see on this blog:
-Recipes: generally found on Pinterest, because I'm a Pinterest addict, with, of course, links to the original author/cook's post, and nearly always altered at least to include healthier ingredients, more vegetables/fruits, or to reduce sugar or carbohydrate intake, -or- photos and descriptions of meals The Dude prepares, which are always amazing.
-Repurposed crafts and clothing refashions: I'm a thrift store FIEND, so there will be quite a bit of this, and it will definitely come in the form of poor-quality-picture-heavy, awkwardly-written posts. Bear with me.
-Moments from my life: silly dogs being silly, Carey trying to look like an adult, wearing actual people clothes (I don't get to do this often, as my current employer requires me to don a uniform, including khaki pants, one of the oldest thorns in my side, but, provided I am accepted for this new position, the real Carey will be allowed to run rampant through the streets in her silly outfits,) also, cute things The Dude says, random rants, etc.
-Whatever else I decide to post, because this is my blog, and I do what I want.
If there's anything else you'd like to know, because you've found my life profoundly fascinating (yeah, right,) and you simply must have more details about how I became a rock star, please feel free to comment and ask. I'm an open book. Of course, there are limitations, because this is the internet and, well, trolls exist, but I will do my best!
As before, a daily dose of thanks. Today I am thankful for the glorious sunshine breaking through the lately ever-present clouds and the breeze rustling the trees, wafting through my windows, making it difficult to get ready for work because I just want to sit on the porch with the pups, drinking tea and reading Terry Pratchett. Alas, it is Saturday, a typically busy day in the restaurant industry, so calling out, when one could potentially come home with three digits in cash tips in her pocket, would be foolish. Thus is life.
Peace, y'all.
Carey
